Garmin users in Britain have had to choose between Ordnance Survey detail at high prices or maps based on Open Street Map (as Garmin's Topo Lite is) which, in many areas, lack the .topographical detail for safe navigation in open country. This map is available at a price of GBP15 download. The maps have more topographical detail than Garmin Topo Lite and are a fraction of the price of OS maps of comparable detail. This is built from the latest data of November 2019 from the Ordnance Survey, Open Street Map and Rights of way from selected local authorities. New version March 2020 includes Core Paths for selected Scotland authorities and includes Elevation Data. One map (850MB download) covers the whole of England, Wales and Scotland - from St Kilda to the Scillys. There is a free download of the Peak District to try before you buy. The maps is supplied either in GMAP format for Windows and Mac or as a IMG file that can be copied directly to a SD card.

This map covers the Peak District - the areas traditionally known as the White Peak and Dark Peak. Between Sheffield and Manchester and from Ashbourne to the Woodhead valley. This is a sample for my GBOpen map of England, Scotland and Wales that will be released in mid February 2016. It is prepared from the Ordnance Survey Opendata District mapping and some Open Street Map data (footpaths, POIs and old railways). Also Rights of Way from those Local Authorities that publish them. Updated June 2016 to bring road colours towards UK Ordnance Survey standards. The Windows and Mac files are now the same. For windows, copy the GBOpenPeak.gmap folder to C:\ProgramData \Garmin\Maps\ and Basecamp should find it.

The whole of metropolitan France and Corsica. Made from IGN Open data. Includes all buildings, footpaths, streams, woodland even hedges. Includes street names, bars, campsites, toilets. This is in GMAP format so unzip and copy the folder (or a shortcut to it) to Program data\Garmin\maps. It is very large - 6.5GB - and Basecamp may struggle. Be patient!
